Alma Armanis, 81, died on November 29, 2018, peacefully at home in Indianapolis.
An only child, Alma was born in Latvia to Felicia and Janis (John) Armanis. They immigrated to the United States and located in Indianapolis, in what would become the Mapleton Fall Creek neighborhood. Alma attended Cathedral Grade School and graduated from St. Agnes Academy in 1956.
She graduated from Marian College in 1960, with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry.
Her education did not end there, as she continued to take classes at Indiana University in Bloomington and IUPUI. In later years, she would be seen walking along Fall Creek to get to her classes at nearby Ivy Tech.
Alma followed local and international news, enjoyed her flower gardens, and worked on her computer. She was an expert seamstress.
She was fiercely independent. When younger and in college, she got around in her Chevy Malibu. Later she could navigate the city with the bus system, like nobody else. The downtown library was her favorite go-to place.
Alma is survived by many cousins all over the country. Her services will be held on Wednesday, December 12, 10:00-11:00, at Peace Chapel, Crown Hill Mausoleum.
Deacon Tom Ward will be officiating, with a private interment to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Families First, 615 N. Alabama St., Suite 320, Indianapolis, 46204, or by phone: 317-644-7207.
